The Wax Eye, also known as the Silvereye, is a small but characterful native bird, and this painting focuses on the fine detail that makes it so distinctive — particularly the soft chest feathers and the subtle white ring around the eye.

Painted during periods of lockdown, this artwork became a slow, layered process that allowed time to build texture through controlled brushwork. The feather detail was a particular focus, giving the bird a sense of softness and life without overworking the image.
